Divorce and Family Law
My divorce practice runs the gamut from simple to highly complex family law cases involving contested visitation or custody, marital property division, child support and spousal support calculations and negotiations, and DNA and paternity testing. While divorce can be an emotional issue, I educate my clients so that they can make informed legal decisions that will help them build a secure future for themselves and their children.
In child custody cases, I focus especially on attempting to correct the perception that the father cannot get custody of the child. In any marriage dissolution, a judge or the parents themselves will decide custody and visitation questions by focusing on the best interests of the children.
Estate Planning
I tell my clients that it is not only the rich and famous who need an estate plan. Creating an estate plan is a proactive step that gives you peace of mind that your loves ones will be taken care of following your death. Using wills and trusts, you can dictate your wishes regarding the distribution of your assets and maximize the portion of your estate that will go to your heirs instead of to estate taxes or probate court fees. Your estate plan should also include powers of attorney to set forth your wishes related to health care surrogates. An estate plan can also include one or more guardianship documents, to provide for the care of a minor child, a disabled adult child or a family member incapacitated by illness or age.
Probate and Estate Administration, and Litigation
The probate administration process provides for the orderly transfer of assets. As a probate lawyer, I assist the surviving family and friends in distributing the estate. If there is no will, I will follow the probate administration rules of the Florida Code. When dealing with probate matters, legal and emotional issues tend to combine, and I am here to help you with both.
When conflicts arise regarding distribution of the assets of a deceased family member, I am available to represent any interested party in probate litigation. Many probate lawyers avoid probate administration in situations where will contests or other disputes are likely to arise. With my extensive courtroom experience, I am able to confidently assist clients with contested probate proceedings.
Criminal Law
My criminal defense practice is enhanced by my previous experience as a criminal prosecutor. I have handled cases in juvenile court, as well as felony cases that carry the potential of life in prison. I have also provided criminal defense services to clients accused of white collar crime, DWI, drug possession, assault and domestic violence.
